I did, in fact, mean using JavaScript on page load to disable the user from changing the size of the textarea, not within my browser. It's like using CSS to disable the dotted border Firefox puts around links when they are active.
Form elements, and the divs that contain them, often need either fixed widths or have widths that are proportional to their containers.
Take Google (http://www.google.com). Depending on how the layout is set up (this is just hypothetical), resizing the search box would push those three links next to it off into oblivion if they were all in a div that was fixed or proportional to the page width. It doesn't matter if Safari "dynamically redraws the page" since the div would still be calculated to be the same. Worse yet, depending on its overflow attribute, they could be pushed onto a new line.
I'd really not like to see Safari become the next IE 5. It already has its share of JavaScript bugs. This would just mean us designers would have to spend that much more time envisioning what would happen if a user resized every form element on every page and incorporating it into our layouts. This is why I hope there's a way to disable it outright.
Funny, this was the feature from the list I thought would be most useful. In particular, it would be useful when posting to MacRumors-- I'd love to make this little box bigger...
I hear where you're coming from though. Hopefully Apple would honor CSS clues that the field should remain fixed-- for example if you've set up pixel accurate sizing, you probably don't want it resized.
If nothing else, remember that the user is the one that resized it, not the browser. Even if the other elements get shoved around and the layout made ugly, the user will have seen their actions responsible for pushing things around.

Like it was said in other forms (and also by myself), it was blown hugely out of proportion, and a week from now, no one will even care about it anymore.

I love how in our industry, when we raise a price, we have to justify it to the customer start to finish, across every presence imaginable, media, events, etc... cost of materials, availability during wartime, tighter environmental standards, labor cost increase, having not made an adjustment to the price in nearly a decade despite inflation and other factors... before we'll be able to make a 5% increase to the price and not lose all our customers.
It must be nice to be a telecom company and just toss out huge arbitrary pricing changes without any justification.
Wow, what industry are YOU in? Most industries don't have to explain anything to customers/clients especially when prices have remained stable for as long as you claim.

Hard to explain, you just need to download it.
From what I gather, it's just like LaunchBar, no?
I haven't messed with it a whole lot, so I don't know all its ins and outs, but it seemed to be doing a similiar thing (brings up applications/files as you type).
Not bad, although if they are the same idea, I prefer launch bar - just wish it was free ;)

You need to ask yourselves a questions: How these stores operating? and Why products end up there?
Apparently, some authorized retailers overstock iPads or could not move projected volume, so they dumped some unsold inventory to Marshalls and TJMax, just to get some cash back, quick.
Overstocked with iPads??? Not a good news for Steve.
What is the issue here? iPads are sold in Walmart and Target and nobody complains.
I think the biggest issue with it comes from the actual Apple authorized retailers. For instance, in my line of work (golf course management), I purchase golf equipment directly from the manufacturers (Callaway Golf, Nike, Titleist, etc). To be able to do that, I HAVE to agree to a minimum advertised pricing (MAP) policy, or I can't buy directly from them nor be listed as a retailer of that company's products (any retailer buying from directly from the manufacturer has to abide by this). If I then saw a major retailer (a competitor) advertising products that I sell for significantly lower than I am allowed to (knowing that all official retailers are supposed to be bound by this agreement to even sell the products as an "authorized retailer"), then I'm going to be pretty upset as to why I have to abide by it to get my goods, when either they (the competitor discounting said merchandise) aren't, or either they are getting a cheaper price (allowing them to sell for a lower price than me, yet still keep similar profit margins). And if they are in violation of this MAP policy, I'm going to damn sure be wondering why the manufacturer (in the iPad case...Apple), isn't going after them (telling them to stop, if they are an authorized retailer), or pulling their account. In the golf business, the manufacturers go hard after companies that violate this MAP policy.

This means the ip5 will be delayed at least 6 months. Big mistake Apple, the galaxy s2 will be in the market in 1 month, and the white model should have been launched 3 months after the black model, not now. Everybody is waiting for an update phone, not a "white coloured" one, with old hardware and same price. Bad movement, i'm afraid.

Are you sure? By then you will get at least 1TB hard drives for 100$ (there are already 750GB drives on the market). I still would prefer the hard drive. Faster data access and easier handling...

To me I think Discs need to me eliminated in all forms. No blue Ray no HD-DVD no dual layer anyhting.
Lets just use memory sticks and Hard drives.
Can you imagine if You Car stero no longer had CD player slots, but Say a new Credit Card size flash drive with 8 GBs... that'd be nice...
To me the whole Disc format in every way is a pain...

Thank you, Apple, for weeding out the companies whose business model depends on selling my information to junk-mailers.
This is the kind of 'crazy-Steve-Jobs-control' I can live with.
I agree wholeheartedly. Despite the fact that I work for the same company that owns the FT, I am disgusted by this reasoning. I definitely won't be subscribing to the pink paper any time soon.

Might want to check the signature app in the store. I've had it for over a year, you can choose up to 6 signatures. Use to be called signature pro, but my app says just Signature.
FWIW.
If this (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/email-signature-pro/id317243351?mt=8) is what you are talking about, the current version is $5. Which would be fine, except the recent reviews are very poor.
It also looks (from the screencaps) like you run the app to pick one of a handful of signatures, when most of us just want to have one specific signature assigned each mailbox...
Regardless, thanks for the heads up.

No, it's just principle. Some people just need to be "removed" from the world. It's as simple as that. Like if you rape a baby for example, i think you pretty much just stripped yourself of your right to be alive. Euthanize them like a dog, why not? And also, you don't know if some judge 50 years in the future will release them for good behavior and so they can "die in peace".
Why kill 'em when you can give 'em free food and lodging for life?

Question...anyone know where i can change the SD card and jumpdrive icons in Candybar?
I thought they showed up in the Device pane when they were plugged in. Is that not how it works with jump drives and SD cards?

I don't read FT. so your point is invalid.
So you enjoy watching them abuse other people, but since it's not you then it's ok?
What kind of a sick attitude is that? You think it's a good thing that they mistreat their readers? Why? Is it just funny to you or something?

I like Castle for the new service. The whole Castle in the Cloud theme. It works.
This instantly made me think of Laputa: Castle in the sky as well as the Laputa in gulliver's travels.
I think apple should go for this over iCloud. It's a brilliant idea to brand a cloud related service as a castle. It just fits. They can even claim that it's "magic as a castle in the sky"
Thank you for referencing one of the greatest films ever!

A floating castle should be the logo. :D

What Apple needs to do is establish the "normal" rights a user gets when they buy a video. Of course every Disney film will come with the normal, default rights. Then if another studio wants to sell a video with different rights attached iTunes should clearly label the video in big red letters as being "crippled with restrictive usage rights" Then a pop-up dialog box should appear that explains this and asks "Do you really want this crap are would you prefer we mailed you the DVD copy" Finally after reading the warning label and clicking yes in the pop up you can download the film.
In my opinion the whole argument is moot. The video quality is so low I would never buy it.
