I think your arugument would be valid if phones were not subsudized and you have to buy them at full price. Because AT&T in this case is paying Apple $400 per phone you should choose a network first.
If ISP were footing the bill for desktop then Verizon add still would work but for cell phones most of the cost of the phone is paid by the networks. Not the other way around.
My original iPhone was not subsidized and I had to buy it at full price. I chose the device with no qualms about what network I was required to use.
While the iPhone is now subsidized, so are many other phones on many other networks. If only certain networks were doing this to add value to choosing their contracts, I could understand your point of choosing the network before the device. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't understand how this changes my argument that the service is just a commodity while the device is the consumer's primary choice.

No, there will be no change in computing. It's already general and basic enough to cover all the bases.
and tablets are the future of it. I do think servers/ power machines will remain, but I can see them becoming specialised (such as in power stations etc). I can see Linux filling that whole perfectly. I do feel that tablets/ touch based computers are the future, but I think they need voice recognition software to truly come into play for text input. If the iPad had a killer voice recognition software, then MS Word for iPad might truly become a game changer. As good as any touchscreen is, typing 2,000 words on a touchscreen would be a bit of a push.

my dream feature will be that bootcamp has been change to where u can nativly run mac/windows in the same screen with out reboot "hey i can dream" lol hopefully 3ghz macbook pros and a mid range tower and maybe new hd monitors thats biger than 30 inch for itv like 40 50 and 60" :cool: and blu ray will be made on all new macs

iPhone is a great target because of the "holier than thou" culture that Steve Jobs helped create. And now they come out with a phone with a shatter-prone back, flat/square as a brick, still retains the small 3.5" screen and the antenna problems. This is all excellent fuel for the haters.
Even with all that it's still the best phone out there, but the 4 is an even easier target and it's starting to wobble on it's pedestal. Now, when you pull out an iPhone 4, you can expect "oh, you got one of those."
You can thank Apple for making this all worse with it's stupid design decisions on the iPhone 4. They have a chance to fix a lot of this come June.

I am just rotate the orientation of the third image and the view is different and you can see that the text and the logo is just in a perfect place and no distortion as being mentioned earlier.. this is due to the actual orientation and the camera lens that being use to capture it.. perspective create a distortion that sometimes our eyes can be dupe with...

Well, they did steal over $1000 worth of stuff. Thats a big deal in my book when I only make $10,000 a year and that I'm in college. I know what you are saying but its still crappy for someone to even steal $100 worth of stuff from you.
It's crappy that someone would steal anything from you. The feeling of having something taken from you is an unmeasurable price in itself.
Back in our old house we had a bike stolen, my grandfather (who was about 70 at the time) fought off some Spanish muggers whilst on holiday too. That really shook him up and nothing was taken from him!

I know I'm the minority around here when I say this, but I don't own an iPod. :eek: Yeah, it's true... I personally don't care for the MP3 format and the lesser quality offerings of iTunes. If it isn't at least CD quality, uncompressed, I don't want it. And yes, I can hear the difference on my sound system which is a separate setup from my home theatre.

People who are not geeks - live their lives and will want 'ease of use' and they will want more and more to view the computer as an appliance. Like a toaster or toilet. They will not replace or adjust it until it breaks.
That being said, as the exploits to Windows grows, and less decisions are being made in MS by the old boy team of Gates and his peers... I think there continues to be an invisible hand that drives people away from Windows machines.
Business and most people just want a functioning machine and easy to use UI. They could care less about file systems and USB 3, they just want it to work.
When you have a HUGE mass of people wanting to overtake your Windows computer, with 100's of daily new infections, why would ANYONE want to learn how to surf the web defensively? They just want to surf the web. With Windows, you have to surf defensively. You need antivirus, you need anti malware, you need to dump temp files regularly, protect and delete cookies and do a ton of stuff that is just unrealistic to most of the market.
I question the ideas that Lion Server is going away, that Samba is going to be pushed out, and that NFS will not work. I can't understand why they would put so much effort into a mac mini server and just drop it like Microsoft does: see their book scan project, Sharepoint, MSN Music, Zune players, etc. They chase markets - see Windows seven mobile features - and then they cancel them, leaving people in the cold.
There is a lot in the favor of apple today and going forward. I hope that Jobs has a legacy plan in place whenever he has to leave this Earth. Because there is HUGE opportunity in the next ten years.

I think you must be unaware of the licensing change for the SAMBA project that is forcing Apple to drop it. Windows networking support isn't going away - it will just be in a different form with Lion. Also, Mac OS X Server isn't going away entirely - it's just going away as a standalone product. So, less profit for Apple, but easier for users and administrators.

Eventually it just has to be called "iPhone". No numbers, and certainly no asinine feature indicators. Internally it will be "iPhone (nth generation)", and the previous model on sale for $99 (or $49) will be "iPhone (previous generation)", just like iPods. Same goes for the iPad. Seriously, 10 years from now what are they going to call it... the iPhone 14s? This makes sense how?

Nope, it won't happen at all. There is too big of a market for people who write and rely on custom software. I don't disagree that the friendly face of the OS will continue to get dumbed down. The backend, however, will remain just as open and customizable. Go look at any University and you'll find that in the CS dept a huge portion of the professors and their students use Mac OS X. Restrict this market and you drive away future developers. It would be suicidal.
